Concealed Carry Advice and tips for newcomers to CCW
Every concealed carrier starts off in the same place - learning to get comfortable walking around with a concealed weapon on them. No matter what your particular reasons, it's a major step in taking personal responsibility for your own welfare and that of your family. Now, let's go over some basic points of ccw advice for first timers.
Stop Touching your concealed carry handgun
Out in public, it can be bit distracting. No one knows you have a concealed carry firearm on - if you've been doing it right. That said, if no one is saying anything - don't. Second point is stop touching it. If no one knows you have a firearm, keep it that way. The surest way to or your is to keep reflexively touching the pistol.
As a worst case scenario, touching a concealed carry pistol can be intimated to constitute a threat which inevitably brings up the issue of brandishing and improper exhibition of a firearm. Like mom always said, keep it in your pants.
Make a Commitment to Carry - Even When You Don't Feel Like It
Part of getting the CCW permit is getting used to using it. That only comes with experience. That experience is taken from putting on that concealed carry holster and pistol and stepping out into the world.
If this idea doesn't sit well, initially, just get used to putting on the concealed carry holster and firearm around the house or apartment. It's a step to making the ccw experience fit into your normal day to day life.
Keep A Round In The Chamber
Train to load a round in the chamber in the middle of a life and death situation or keep a round in the chamber. There's only one reason to draw your firearm in public and that's because your life, your family's lives, or your own property is being directly threatened. When that situation comes, there's no such thing as warning shots or intimidation. It's straight survival. So, .
Don't Be Paranoid - Not Everybody Knows You're Carrying
An experienced concealed carrier, law enforcement, and military may be able to spot the telltale signs that you might be carrying. Everyone else? Likeliness is somewhere close to zero. If you're properly equipped with a good inside the waistband concealed carry holster, you'll find nobody is paying attention to your waistline. That may come as a blow to the ego but it's not at all a bad thing for a concealed carrier.
Never Bend or Reach the Same Way Again
There's a right way to pick something off the ground if you have a concealed carry firearm. Ironically, it's also the correct way to lift up something from the ground anyhow - squat straight down, back straight. Lift with the legs, not the back. Anyone who's ever worked in a warehouse or done heavy lifting will immediately recognize this. The great news about being a concealed carrier is now you have all the excuse you need to save your back the heartache of improper lifting techniques. See, being a concealed carrier is good for your health!
