You completed your state-mandated training, applied, had your background check and bam - the sheriff (or some other authority) has given you your concealed carry permit. Wow! What an incredible day! Some people get so excited they start slapping stickers on their cars - proudly letting people know behind them in traffic that this vehicle is piloted by someone with a concealed carry pistol.

Unfortunately, you've just removed the entire principle behind the idea of concealed carry. The idea is that a concealed carrier can walk amongst people without letting anyone know he or she has a firearm. The bonuses are clear: criminals don't know you're armed if they try to rob you. Anti-gun freak-outs are minimized. You can drop off your kids at soccer practice and know that if anybody tries to hurt them, they'll have to deal with you first.

There's a lot of liberty to being a concealed carrier. And all that sort of goes away when you slap a CCW sticker on your vehicle or wear a CCW-related shirt. And for goodness sakes, don't wear that silly CCW badge they sell at Wal-Mart. First, it doesn't make anyone feel more confident in your shooting abilities. If anything, it makes you look like a drop-out from Police Academy.

No criminal in the world is going to see someone wearing a CCW badge and think, "oh, this guy is more dangerous."
