The backlayer is closed-cell neoprene, which cushions you while wear it and repels sweat and other moisture to keep the holster dry. The middle layer is spring steel, which flexes while being worn to keep the gun secured but also to firmly anchor the holster to the wearer. The top layer is a durable textured fabric that helps hold the gun but won't mar the finish.
