Alien Gear ShapeShift Mag Carrier Guide

How to carry a magazine holster with the ShapeShift Modular Holster System

Ammunition -- there just never seems to be enough.

Magazine holsters can help with that.

Alien Gear Cloak Mag Carriers are compatible with the ShapeShift Modular Holster System in two carry styles: drop leg and MOLLE.

How to use mag carriers with the ShapeShift MOLLE Holster

The ShapeShift MOLLE Mag Carrier technically doesn't exist.

I made that name up.

Hopefully management isn't concerned that I just went rogue.

But, it is a possibility to use the ($15.88) with a .

That expansion pack includes the hardware to connect the double mag attachment to the MOLLE adapter. The mag buckets are then connected to the double mag attachment.

Because Alien Gear's product team standardized many measurements, this is a possibility.

It's included in some user manuals, but there isn't an official online description of this anywhere.

The Cloak Mag Carrier Double Mag Attachment has an adjustable ride height of about 2.5 inches.

Each singular Cloak Mag Carrier also has adjustable ride height when connecting to the Cloak Mag Carrier Double Mag Attachment, so it's possible to raise or lower them as well.

Each also has 22.5 degree rotational cant.

So, it's possible to carry spare ammunition with these parts on any regular or irregular PALS webbing.

Stow extra mags on a plate carrier. Pop them onto a battle belt. Snap them onto a bag with PALS webbing. It's just a method of carrying extra magazines within PALS webbing.

Not everyone will need this.

It's niche.

However, the point of modularity is to increase the options available so the carrier themself may control the end product according to their preferences.

Situationally, this is an option to carry spare magazines on a MOLLE system that is compatible with regular and irregular PALS webbing.

There is another option within the ShapeShift system to carry magazines.

How to use magazine holsters with the ShapeShift Drop Leg Holster

Alien Gear's magazine holsters are compatible with the drop leg platform released in September.

The central polymer unit on the ShapeShift Drop Leg Holster can host the double mag carrier attachment in the center.

There are two separate spindle attachments on both sides of the drop leg holster that accept single Cloak Mag Carrier buckets.

So, the carry style allows for a handgun with two spare magazines, or there could be four magazines on the drop leg holster.

Hypothetically speaking, up to eight spare magazines can be carried with a second ShapeShift Drop Leg Carry Expansion Pack on the other leg.

I'm not saying everyone will need or want that.

The intention wasn't to set out to make a couple systems that allow for up to eight spare mags.

But it's a possibility.

You can make that happen.

There is an important question that stems from the previously described options.

What purpose does it serve to have mag carriers integrated into this system?

Or in other words: who does this serve?

Anyone who runs drills on the range with any PALS webbing will benefit from using molle mag carriers.

Alternatively, the drop leg system similarly serves this purpose.

There are multiple applications of the MOLLE system and the ShapeShift variation of it can compensate for both handguns and spare magazines -- as is the case with the drop leg system.

As always, the choice is up to you. Alien Gear just provides customizable options.
