S&W SD40VE Drop Leg Holster

When open carrying around the house, in the woods or at the range, a S&W SD40VE drop leg holster surely has to be one of the best ways to do it. No other open carry method is as comfortable or puts the pistol in as convenient a location.

If you could find an SD40VE leg holster with good retention, carried comfortably and even offered a way to carry a spare magazine or two, that would be quite something.

That is exactly what we had in mind when creating our thigh holster platform, and our S&W SD40VE drop thigh holster delivers exactly that. Good fitment of the gun, customizable retention, and a comfortable, secure carry are what you can expect.

Aside from the SD9VE thigh holster, it also carries up to four magazines.

How can it do all that?!

Start with the holster itself. The SD40VE ShapeShift OWB holster docks with the thigh platform, locking securely in place. The holster cannot unlock from the thigh rig once locked in place. The cant angle is also adjustable, so set the grip angle to your liking. You'll also get the benefits of the ShapeShift's retention capabilities of fully adjustable passive retention and optional active retention if desired.

The thigh platform is molded to fit comfortably, as it's gently curved to fit an actual human leg. It's molded from our proprietary durable polymer, which is all but unbreakable under most conditions.

The thigh straps are elastic, so they'll hold once fastened but also stretch to fit your shape and do so without cutting off circulation. The belt loop is heavy duty webbing, which cannot come undone unless you want to take it off.

You'll note two additional docking splines, which are for use with the Alien Gear Cloak Mag Carriers. Dock up to two of either our single or dual mag carriers, so you can carry up to four spare magazines at any given time.

With our thigh holster, you also get Alien Gear's product guarantee, including the 30-Day Test Drive and our comprehensive lifetime warranty. Return the holster within the first month of ownership for a full refund if unsatisfied, and never worry about a defect or damage. We will fix any issue or send you a brand new SD40VE drop leg holster.

You can have a better open carry. All you have to do is enter Alien Gear's orbit...

I was impressed with the holster when i first received it. But while i was out on my first back country hunting trip with it it failed. i was 6 miles in when a screw that holds the clip onto the holster fell out and my sidearm fell off and fell 20 feet down the mountain luckily i was able to retrieve my gun. had to spend the rest of the trip with out my sidearm easily accessible. Good thing i didnt have any run ins with any bears. (Posted on 9/28/2020)

Great product, only thing I think they should address is the the straps end,not the strap strength but where u tighten towards the end half attached Bungie not What I expect but everything else is exceptional and I would recommend it but find a new strap tightener, just food for thought. This is the best customer service I have ever experienced. Called because I had just received my holster a couple weeks ago and the thumb release button seemed to not be functioning right. No questions asked they sent me another one that arrived the next day! Called around 4pm and the new holster was delivered next day free of charge. This company stands behind their warranty and product (Posted on 5/20/2020)

I bought this in a large but had to send it back because it was to big. a word of advice if your thigh is a 26" in diameter if it start with that size in a medium go with that size
you'll have plenty of width. Alien Gear send me the right size after I returned it. no questions ask. I love these guys. (Posted on 4/28/2020)
Good and serviceable but some oversights Review by Mike

Using with a Glock 32.

It fits well and is easily adjustable. I ordered a medium and was easily able to adjust everything to fit my leg. Especially a fan of the double thigh straps. Leg holsters are inherently unbalanced when the gun is holstered and the brands that only have on thigh strap are often impossible to secure in such a way as to eliminate wobble. Not a problem here.

The retention is excellent, standard trigger guard latch with a thumb button on the inside. The button itself is a bit cheap feeling and has a lot of flex in it, meaning that if your thumb is off to one side slightly when you press it, it will bend to the side instead of going straight down and releasing the gun. It doesn't feel as if it's going to break and training will solve the problem. Still, it is a silly problem to have and could easily be solved by having a slightly thicker linkage or adding a small bracket around it to keep it aligned. Also, holstering requires a bit more force than some other common brands of these holsters in order to lock it in. Again, training will solve this problem for each user but it would have been easy to solve by changing the shape of the latch or adding a small teflon strip to it, or any other number of tiny changes.

My largest complaint, by far, is the belt straps. On the plus side, it is a single strap from the center of the holster that then Y's out to 2 straps. However, the way you secure it to a belt is closed loops you have to feed your belt through.....come on. Other double velcro systems are much better. So much better that I cut the loops that came with this thing off and replaced them with other velcro loops. They're exactly the same dimensions and fit right in the buckles.

Finally, I have some small concerns about quality and durability. The plastic feels cheap and the retention mechanism creaks and squeaks like cheap plastic rubbing against cheap plastic. But nothing has broken yet and it is extremely comfortable and easy to use. (Posted on 1/14/2020)

I haven’t got to use it yet but from what I gather it’s a pretty good holster. The only down side is that it took 3 weeks to get here. (Springfield XD 9mm was the Gun) (Posted on 1/10/2020)

Could not be happier Review by Michael Simi Valley

Just received my Drop Leg Holster. I have a Glock 17 with an extended ported barrel and an extended Mag release so I knew I'd need to do a little Dremel work. Easy enough to remove the thumb lock and use just the adjustable trigger housing retaining system. The straps to adjust the leg and waist / holster height are easy to setup to my individual comfort. Being able to adjust the cant angle of the pistol (holster) was a big reason why I choose a Alien Gear Holster - works exactly as I expected. This thing is extremely comfortable, well made and a great design. (Posted on 5/28/2019)

There is no more wiggle. Holster stays in one place. Firearm locks right in easy draw with thumb button. (Posted on 4/8/2019)
