FNX 9 Holster Compatibility Overview

All holsters in this collection are fitted specifically to the FN FNX 9, a full-size DA/SA semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mm Luger and manufactured by FN America in Columbia, South Carolina. Before selecting a holster, verify your firearm matches the following core specifications that define this fit.

The FNX 9 measures 7.4 inches in overall length, 5.45 inches in height, and 1.55 inches in width. The barrel is 4.0 inches, cold hammer-forged stainless steel. Unloaded weight is 21.9 ounces. The pistol uses a DA/SA action with an exposed hammer and ships with a MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny accessory rail forward of the trigger guard.

The FNX 9 is produced in two finish configurations: matte black slide over black frame, and natural stainless slide over black frame. Both share identical external dimensions and the same external profile. Holsters in this collection fit both finish variants without modification.

One important distinction for holster selection: the FNX 9 does not have a factory optic-cut or Tactical variant in the 9mm platform. The FNX 45 Tactical, which features a milled optic slide and threaded barrel, is a separate, larger-frame pistol with different external dimensions. Holsters in this collection are fitted to the FNX 9 only and are not confirmed compatible with any FNX 45 variant.

The FNX 9 frame includes a full Picatinny rail. Holsters in this collection are fitted to the standard FNX 9 profile without a rail-mounted accessory. Compatibility with a mounted weapon light or laser is not confirmed and should not be assumed without verification against a light-specific holster model.

How to Choose the Right Alien Gear Holster for the FNX 9

Selecting the correct holster depends on your carry environment, your clothing, and the specific demands of how you carry day to day. The FNX 9's full-size profile, at 7.4 inches overall and 1.55 inches wide, places it in the larger end of the carry spectrum. That width and length require intentional holster selection to carry comfortably and conceal effectively.

For concealed daily carry, the Cloak Tuck 3.5 IWB Holster positions the FNX 9 inside the waistband, close to the body. At 21.9 ounces unloaded and 1.55 inches wide, the FNX 9 benefits from a quality gun belt to distribute weight and hold the holster securely against the body.

For range sessions, training, or open carry, the OWB paddle holster and belt holster both provide stable retention outside the waistband. 

The paddle holster attaches without threading onto a belt, making it practical for environments where the holster needs to come on and off frequently. The belt holster provides a more fixed, consistent carry position suited to structured training or extended open carry.

For outdoor and field carry where waist access is obstructed by a pack hip belt, seated position, or terrain demands, the chest holster positions the FNX 9 across the sternum. This suits hiking, ATV use, hunting, and remote work environments where a belt-mounted holster is not practical.

For tactical training or gear-heavy environments where body armor or load-bearing equipment covers the hip, the swivel drop leg holster positions the FNX 9 below the belt line. The swiveling mount supports a consistent draw angle during movement. This is not a concealed carry solution.

For staged access inside a vehicle, bag, or soft panel, the hook and loop holster attaches to compatible surfaces for discreet positioning without on-body wear.

The following holster types are available in this collection for the FNX 9.

The Cloak Tuck 3.5 IWB Holster is the inside-the-waistband option in this lineup. Molded from Boltaron polymer to the FNX 9's exact frame and slide profile, it is designed for close-to-body concealed carry with adjustable cant and retention for a personalized fit.

The OWB paddle holster attaches outside the waistband via a paddle insert for quick on-and-off access without belt removal. It suits range use, training days, and open carry where removal and reattachment speed matters.

The belt holster loops directly onto a belt for a fixed outside-the-waistband carry position. It provides stable, consistent holster placement during extended range sessions or open carry use.

The swivel drop leg holster mounts the FNX 9 on the thigh below the belt line via a swiveling attachment. It is designed for tactical training and gear-heavy environments where belt-line carry is obstructed. It is not a concealed carry configuration.

The chest holster positions the FNX 9 across the sternum for field and outdoor carry when waist carry is not practical. It suits hiking, ATV operation, hunting, and remote work environments.

The hook and loop holster attaches to hook-and-loop compatible surfaces inside vehicles, bags, or soft mounting panels for discreet staged access without on-body wear.

Common Fit or Selection Mistakes to Avoid

Assuming FNX 45 variants fit FNX 9 holsters is a consistent source of incorrect purchases. The FNX 45 and FNX 45 Tactical are larger-frame pistols with different external dimensions than the FNX 9. These pistols require separate holster selections and are not compatible with holsters fitted to the FNX 9.

Carrying a rail-mounted weapon light in a standard FNX 9 holster is not a confirmed compatible configuration. 

The FNX 9 frame includes a full Picatinny rail, and holsters in this collection are fitted to the bare pistol profile. A light-bearing holster specific to your light and pistol combination is required for on-body carry with a mounted light.

Selecting a drop leg holster for daily concealed carry is a misapplication of that product. The swivel drop leg holster is designed for tactical training and environments where belt-line carry is obstructed. It is not appropriate for civilian daily carry and should not be treated as a concealment solution.

Treating the hook and loop holster as a primary retention holster is another common error. It is a staged-access solution for soft-sided surfaces, not a substitute for a rigid retention holster in active on-body carry.

Underestimating the FNX 9's size when selecting an IWB holster is also worth flagging. At 1.55 inches wide and 5.45 inches tall, the FNX 9 is a full-size pistol. IWB carry at this size requires a well-fitted gun belt and clothing that accommodates the grip height. Selecting a holster without accounting for the pistol's full dimensions can result in discomfort, poor concealment, or inconsistent draw access.

When This Collection May Not Be the Right Fit

This collection is sized and molded to the FN FNX 9's external dimensions. Pistols that do not match the specifications described in the compatibility overview may not fit correctly or retain safely.

The FNX 45, FNX 45 Tactical, and FNX 40 are separate pistols with different frame dimensions. Holsters in this collection are not confirmed compatible with any of those variants and should not be assumed to fit them.

If your carry requirement involves a rail-mounted weapon light, holsters in this collection are not confirmed to accommodate that configuration. A light-bearing holster built around your specific light and pistol pairing is required.

If your intended use is vehicle-mounted or stationary bedside storage rather than on-body or staged carry, this collection does not include products designed for that application.
