Makarov Holster Compatibility Overview

The holsters in this collection are built to fit the Makarov PM, a compact, double-action, hammer-fired pistol chambered in 9x18mm Makarov. 

Originally adopted in 1951 as a Soviet service sidearm, the Makarov's fixed-barrel blowback design and all-steel construction give it a distinct physical profile that requires a holster fitted specifically to its geometry.

Makarov Specs That Affect Holster Fit

The Makarov PM is an all-steel, fixed-barrel, blowback-operated pistol with a compact grip frame and an exposed hammer. Its slide profile, trigger guard geometry, and the placement of the heel-mounted magazine release are the primary dimensional details that define holster fit for this pistol. 

The fixed barrel sits slightly lower than comparable tilting-barrel designs, and the squared slide profile is visually and dimensionally distinct from modern polymer pistols.

The Makarov has no accessory rail. Holsters designed for rail-mounted lights or accessories are not compatible with this pistol. Both holsters in this collection are molded for the standard Makarov PM frame profile.

A note on Makarov variants. The Makarov family includes Soviet, East German, Bulgarian, Chinese, and Russian commercial production variants, as well as PMM and commercial .380 ACP configurations. 

The Alien Gear Cloak shell for this collection is fitted to the standard Makarov PM profile. If your pistol is a PMM or a significantly modified commercial variant with dimensional differences from the standard PM, verify your specific configuration against the product listing before ordering.

How to Choose the Right Alien Gear Holster for the Makarov

The Makarov's 22 oz all-steel frame and compact 6.34-inch length make it a practical carry pistol, but its fixed-barrel blowback design and heel-mounted controls mean holster fit requires a shell molded specifically for this pistol rather than adapted from a similarly sized semi-auto. 

This collection offers two confirmed carry configurations, each serving a distinct carry context.

Cloak Tuck 3.5 IWB Holster

The Cloak Tuck 3.5 is the primary concealed carry option in this collection and the right choice for daily inside-the-waistband carry. 

A custom-molded Boltaron polymer shell provides secure retention around the Makarov's all-steel frame, and the CoolVent neoprene backing distributes the pistol's weight against the body while keeping the holster breathable during extended wear.

Adjustable ride height and cant let you configure the carry position for strong-side, appendix, or other IWB positions based on your build and daily routine. The Makarov's compact dimensions, 3.68-inch barrel, and 22 oz weight make it a capable IWB carry pistol, and the Cloak Tuck 3.5 is designed to support that without requiring a cover garment heavier than a loose shirt.

This holster uses the Cloak shell system and is not compatible with ShapeShift series platforms.

Cloak Swivel Drop Leg Holster

The Cloak Swivel Drop Leg Holster positions the Makarov on the thigh using a dual-swivel platform for field, range, and tactical carry contexts where waistband access is impractical. 

The swivel design moves with the leg during physical activity, reducing strain and maintaining a consistent draw position in active environments. It is suited to range sessions, outdoor use, and situations where a waistband holster would be blocked by gear or outerwear.

This is not an everyday civilian concealed carry configuration. It is a purpose-built option for situations where thigh carry solves a specific access problem that waistband carry cannot.

Common Fit or Selection Mistakes to Avoid

Ordering for a PMM or Commercial Variant Without Verifying Fit

The PMM introduced dimensional differences from the standard PM, including a larger grip frame and a higher-capacity magazine. Commercial Russian import variants and .380 ACP versions may also have profile differences. 

The Alien Gear Cloak shell for the Makarov is fitted to the standard PM. If your pistol is a PMM or a commercial variant with different dimensions, verify compatibility before ordering.

Attempting to Use a Cloak Shell on a ShapeShift Platform

The Makarov Cloak shell is compatible with Cloak holster bases only. It will not fit ShapeShift series platforms. If you own a ShapeShift-based holster system, the Makarov shell is not interchangeable with it.

Selecting a Drop Leg Holster for Everyday Civilian Carry

The Cloak Swivel Drop Leg Holster is designed for range, field, and tactical environments where thigh carry addresses a specific gear or access conflict. 

For daily civilian concealed carry, the Cloak Tuck 3.5 IWB Holster is the more practical and appropriate choice.

Expecting the Full Range of Carry Styles Available for Other Pistols

This collection covers two confirmed configurations for the Makarov. It does not include OWB paddle, belt, chest, or hook and loop carry. 

If your carry needs require one of those styles for this pistol, they are not available in this collection and are not confirmed for the Makarov at this time.

When This Collection May Not Be the Right Fit

This collection is specific to the standard Makarov PM. It may not be the right starting point if:
