Springfield XDs 3.3 ShapeShift Core Carry Pack

Please note: The ShapeShift Core Carry Pack, formerly known as the Starter Kit, has been renamed to better represent the four most popular “core” carry styles within our growing modular holster system.

XDs 3.3 ShapeShift Modular Holster System

The ShapeShift Modular Holster System is patent pending.

Have you ever stared at the night sky, and wondered if somewhere out in space was a perfectly modular XDs 3.3 holster that would let earthlings that owned one carry any way they wished? No need to invest in a telescope. Alien Gear has just such a holster - the ShapeShift.

The ShapeShift is the culmination of more than two years of research and development in creating more than a holster, but in fact a modular carry system that allows for multiple configurations of a Springfield XDs subcompact holster, including multiple options for concealed carry and open carry.

The core of the ShapeShift is the shell system. With purchase of the base kit, you get one full Shift Shell and two half-length trigger guard attachments. The shells fit together without tools by means of a friction-locking rail system, which is further reinforced by the included twist locks. By assembling shells in a specific manner, and pairing with one of the two included backing pads if desired, you create the type of holster you want to carry your XDs subcompact in.

Prefer an XDs 3.3 IWB holster? There are two possible IWB configurations. One of the included backing pads is a traditional IWB backer, which you might notice is very similar in design to our Cloak Tuck 3.0. It has the same neoprene backpad, Alien Skin surface and adjustable belt clips. Attach a trigger guard shell to a full shell, and install on the backer - and you have an IWB holster.

If you prefer an XDs appendix carry holster, attach the same shell configuration to the smaller base and install the larger appendix carry clip.

You can attach the belt slide clip to create a high riding belt-slide Springfield XDs OWB holster. This holster configuration is perfect for OWB concealed carry, as it conceals easily under an untucked shirt or light outerwear.

However, if you would rather carry openly, you can also assemble both full-length shells and insert the paddle attachment - creating an Springfield XDs 3.3 paddle holster.

Retention? The ShapeShift has both adjustable passive and active retention devices. For passive retention, install one of the included trigger guard bars for light, medium or heavy passive retention. You may also install the included thumb-release or finger-release for active retention...or both. The ShapeShift can have both active and passive retention, whichever one may prefer.

The ShapeShift comes with Alien Gear's Iron Clad Guarantee, one of the most comprehensive warranty policies in the industry. The first component is a 30-day trial period. Take the holster for a test drive. Wear it and see if it's up to your satisfaction. If not, contact us before the end of the 30-day period and we'll buy it back.

Lastly, the ShapeShift comes with a lifetime warranty against any problems that may arise. If any issue should occur with the holster, regardless of how it happens, contact us. We will fix the holster or we will send you a new one - for as long as you own it.

The ShapeShift may be the last holster you ever need to buy.

Great holster so far! Review by Kelly

I just received my order today (the Shape Shift Core Carry Pack), and have tested it out with both my 1911 and my M&P .40. I love the comfort I have when sitting, standing or walking with the IWB holster. My only complaint is that the belt clips are just a little TOO secure, making it extremely difficult to remove the holster without taking off my pants and detaching the clip from the IWB pad before I can take the clip off of the belt. Other than that, I am very happy with my purchase so far. As soon as I get my license to carry, I will be testing it out every time I leave the house, getting more comfortable with it and figuring out exactly how I want it positioned to properly conceal and still function well if I ever need to draw my weapon. good but not perfect Review by Adam

I recently received shapeshift core carry pack after about 3 weeks after placing an order. The packaging is very impressive and well organized, which was unexpected. Due to the flexible nature of the kit, there are quite a few parts included in the box, some small and some tiny. The plastic appears for the half shells to be sturdy and pieces fit together ok except the small twist locks are a bit of a challenge due to their size and the manufacturing tolerances. On the IWB pad stitching was not perfect and threads were loose that I trimmed myself.

I am not a big guy, 5'7" about 165lb with 32 inch waist so the only workable config for my CCW, became IWB setup. My pistol is Glock 48, so the appendix option is just too bulky and takes too much space up front near the belt buckle. It does not offer enough adjustability to make it work for me. The clip sticks out a bit far so I did not really like that. I also tried OWB holster configurations, and I liked the features and retention, however the geared swivel quick release mechanism keeps the gun and the holster about half an inch from the body which again proves a bit too bulky. It is possible to remove the the pivot quick connect setup , and bolt the full holster to the belt clip, which I preferred more. The only other comment I wanted to add, is that only IWB configuration has adjustable ride height. All the other setups are pretty much fixed with some tilt tweaks possible. I am also a little concerned that the retention tabs can mar the finish on the trigger guard after repeated use, especially on the polymer pistols, if made too tight.

In summary, the comfort for all the setups proved to be good, just the size and bulkiness can be a hindrance for smaller folks. The kit provides a lot of options, but will require some significant trial and error to find the config that works best for you. (Posted on 11/17/2020)

I've worn the IWB holster from the Core pack several hours a day for over 4 months before writing this review. From fit to features, comfort to quality I've not found a better holster for my needs. The versatility to change modes when needed is terrific and very easy. I'm ordering additional products and don't hesitate to recommend Aliengear. (Posted on 11/9/2020)
The Quality Isn't What it Once Was Review by TWS 607

I bought the Shape Shift Core Carry Pack based on my experience with a Shape Shift IWB holster that I purchased for another gun a few years back. I still have and use that holster and it is one of the best holsters that I have. The Core Carry Pack that I purchased this past summer is horrible. quality. It took Alien Gear about 4 weeks to ship my holster out because they were so far behind manufacturing their products, I do not believe there was any quality control in the process. It is very difficult to slide my gun into the holster and removing it as well. I have adjusted the tension to the point that it is at the least amount without the shell falling off. I paid a lot of money for the Core Carry Pack and I am very unhappy with it. I do not recommend this product. (Posted on 11/8/2020)
Fantastic option for those figuring out how they want to carry Review by Nick

I bought this holster after I had gotten my concealed carry license, and I wasn't sure how I would want to carry. This is more expensive than any single holster option, but given that I wanted to experiment with a variety of carry positions, it is FAR cheaper than buying even just two dedicated holster options.

I'm very happy with the fit and comfort, and changing configurations is pretty simple, made even easier with the included instructions (I recommend you look through them at least once).

FWIW, I settled on appendix carry, and I can confirm that this holster is quite comfortable in that configuration. (Posted on 11/8/2020)

I am very pleased with my rig. I carry IWB it sits nicely at the 4-5 position i really never notice it when sitting. The only issue i have had is it slips down on my underwear so I end up wearing it inside my underwear on my skin to get the grip to keep it from sliding. I wish it had an option to add some kind of grip material to the rig to help with the grip. (Posted on 10/14/2020)

i was really excited about receiving this product. unfortunately when i did i was extremely disappointed. i would say that this system seems to be fairly durable. however after using this system i encountered major issues drawing and holstering. i am using a full size p320 m17. and in the iwb configuration it is almost impossible to draw without bringing my pants with it. now i did try loosening the retention to the point the gun would fall out when tilted upside down, this did not help the problem seems to be with the grippy backing and the length of the barrel. also holstering is also an issue when you tighten the belt the trigger gaurd seems to get distorted and tends to rack the slide when trying to holster. Alien Gear Holsters responded:

Hello Jesse, Thank you so much for your feedback and we do apologize for the drawing and holstering issues here and we do want to make things right! With our IWB holsters the option with out the thumb release is called Passive retention. This type of retention relies on the retention from the adjustable retention unit and the retention from your belt. If you wear your belt tighter we recommend to loosen the retention unit to give it a good draw. Because these are passive retention holsters, this will cause the holster to be loose when you turn it upside down. We hope this helps!
